Hugh & Claire’s Blue Mountains Canyon Elopement
Gorgeous Blue Mountains local adventure couple Claire & Hugh had intended on eloping on a clifftop in Katoomba… The weather however had other plans in store, and so with a weeks worth of rain forecasted they made other plans to elope in a cave inside of a canyon which held a special place for both of them.
With never having visited this new location before, I went to explore it the day prior to check it out and came across the groom and best man rigging up what can only be described as a fairytale-like environment for the wedding to take place inside this epic cave. The walk down was fairly vertical, (my guidebook said to expect a hard 2hr -500m decent / accent and to avoid after rainfall!) so we also enlisted the help of these two adventurous blokes to get our gear in and out of the ceremony location on the day!
The day went ahead with groom Hugh arriving first and changing into his wedding attire, lovely local celebrant Tina (Love in The Mountains) making the trek down next, followed closely by the gorgeous Claire and her Bridesmaid. It certainly made it special and definitely added to the adventure of the day which suited this couple so beautifully.
Just as Claire was changing into her gorgeous boho gown, the clouds parted and so the decision was made to hold the wedding in the canyon itself, and to bring it in under the shelter of the cave if the rain came through again.
We were so lucky that the rain held off just long enough for the ceremony and a few minutes worth of pictures afterwards too, however we made plans to capture some epic clifftop pictures for them a few days later so that the couple could hike back up the canyon and go and share the evening with their witnesses and share the news with their families.
We will always treasure being able to witness and capture this beautiful little heartfelt elopement in the heart of the Blue Mountains which we love so dearly. Thank you so much for having us along Claire & Hugh!
